Changing Facebook photo privacy settings [video]

Facebook photo privacy settings on photo albums

Each time you upload new photos to a photo album, it is important that you have the right Facebook photo privacy settings set to help keep unwanted people from viewing your photos.

For most users though, this is a setting we often forget. This is because we assume that everything posted to Facebook is only available to our friends or because we find Facebook privacy settings difficult to find and change.

Unfortunately, that’s not the case. That’s why you need to be sure to set your Facebook photo privacy settings for each photo album.

Why set Facebook photo privacy settings?

When you don’t set the privacy settings on Facebook photo albums, you leave yourself vulnerable. In most cases, your photos are public, meaning anyone who isn’t your friend can view them.

Because of this, I recommend checking your privacy settings for every photo album that you have on your Facebook profile to ensure that you’re not letting unwanted people view  your photos.

So how do you set your Facebook photo privacy settings to keep people you don’t know or people you don’t want to view your photos out? We’ve compiled short video tutorial to help you do this.

Photo Privacy Settings & Facebook Groups [video]

Photo privacy settings for Facebook Groups

Lately, I’ve received a lot of questions about Facebook Groups. Most of the questions have centered around photo privacy settings.

For anyone who has a group, you know how difficult it can be to change the privacy settings on your Facebook Group. Now add in photos and Facebook Groups are a mess.

What’s wrong with photo privacy settings for Facebook Groups?

One of the biggest complaints about using Facebook Groups is that it’s difficult to change anything. It’s either on or off, there really is no in-between.

Changing the privacy settings on Facebook Groups should be pretty easy. Unfortunately, because of the disjointed settings menu, it’s not so easy (that’s presumably why you’re here).

For Facebook Groups, that’s an unfortunate thing because while groups are about collaboration, sometimes a group admin needs to be able to control the privacy settings.

For example, how would like it if you spent time creating a great cover photo for your Facebook Group, only to have another member come along and upload a photo that’s offensive or of poor quality?

If it were my Facebook Group, this could get frustrating after a while.

In addition to being difficult to navigate, the instructions to make any changes aren’t clear. Here’s a screenshot of the current privacy settings – no, those don’t control your photo privacy settings in Facebook Groups.

Facebook Page Likes – 25 Ways to Build Your Community

While it’s very easy to launch a Facebook Page for your business, it can be challenging to increase, engage, and grow your Facebook Page likes.

Some businesses find it very easy to add fans, while others who are in an industry where using Facebook is more difficult, eventually find that their fanbase will plateau.

If you’re in this situation, it is important to remember that growing a Facebook Page is about more than just getting a bunch of likes. It is about building a community of fans who are excited about what you have to offer.

So what can you do to increase, engage, and grow your Facebook community? We’ve broken things down into phases to help put you on the path to building a loyal following on Facebook.

Increasing Facebook Page Likes

Every Facebook Page starts out with a goal of increasing their Facebook Page likes. This is necessary so that you can start getting your content seen in the Facebook news feed.

Remember, everything you post on your Facebook Page does not get seen. As a result, you’ll want to make sure you focus on the people closest to you first. These are the people who are already passionate about what it is that you do. This way you don’t have to do too much asking to get them to like your page, engage with your content, and share it with their friends.

Engaging with fans

After you’ve built up your Facebook Page likes to a suitable number (you don’t need hundreds or even thousands of fans), the next thing you want to do is to start engaging with your fans.

You can do this in a number of ways such as posting photos of your products, sharing new product releases with fans, linking off to press releases and news sites talking about your business, and even invite fans to help in future product selections.

The key thing here is not to focus on the number of likes you have, but the quality of your Facebook Page likes. This means skip the quotes, funny Internet memes, and anything unrelated to your business. These are just distractions that only take you further away from building an engaging community that is interested in what you have to offer.

Growing your Facebook community

As I mentioned, it is important to increase your Facebook Page likes, but the magic doesn’t happen until you really start to engage with your fans. When you start to engage with your fans, you’ll start to see your Facebook Page likes increase and more of those fans comment and interact with your Facebook Page.

This essentially will lead to growing your Facebook community.

To help get started building your Facebook Page community, we’ve created this downloadable guide featuring 25 ways to increase, engage, and grow your Facebook Page likes. I hope you enjoy it.

Facebook Page Images & Optimizing for EdgeRank

It’s no secret, Facebook EdgeRank is tough to crack. In fact, according to PostRocket, you’re more likely to get into Harvard than to get into the Facebook news feed (seriously). So why is it so difficult for your Facebook Page to break into the news feed? One of the main reasons is because your Facebook Page images are not optimized properly.

Facebook Page images and the news feed

Studies show that 1 of 500 stories actually make it into the Facebook news feed. So how can you increase your odds of getting your content seen?

Instead of posting status updates that focus on text updates only, post Facebook Page images instead – and optimize them.

Ways to optimize Facebook Page images:

  • Start with a high quality image and resize it, don’t go the other way!
  • Make sure images are not blurry
  • Decide if you want to use a regular image or highlight an image on your Facebook Page (the sizes are different)

How to optimize Facebook Page images for EdgeRank

Now that you have a few ideas on what you can do to improve the Facebook Page images that you post, what are the image sizes that you need to know?

Mike Maghsoudi put together this helpful infographic that covers how Facebook chooses to resize images that you include in your updates. Be sure to read through this, as it does a great job highlighting image sizes and how they appear on Facebook.

Remember, if you start off with a bad image, it will only get worse when it gets resized by Facebook.
