App of the day: Amazon Cloud Player

Amazon Cloud Player app for iPhoneBIG news today from Amazon – after what has seemed like eons, they finally released Amazon Cloud Player for the Apple iPhone. Having used Apple iTunes along with Amazon – because they often charge less for downloads and they work across any device, I was always looking for a convenient way to access my Amazon downloads without having to re-sync my device. Amazon seems to have been listening with Amazon Cloud Player.

Here’s a quick rundown on their new app.

What I like about this app:

If you’re not first, you’re last

If you're not first, you're last | Ricky Bobby, Talladega Nights

How many people remember who came in second, third, fourth or fifth place? Not many. In fact, if you’re not first, you’re last if you ask me.

What does it mean to be number one?

Being number one in any area – whether it’s the Valedictorian of your graduating class, or the head honcho at your job, means you are the man (or woman).  With it, also comes added scrutiny.

So why would you want to be first and not second, third, fourth or fifth and have less pressure?  Because no one cares who came in second, they only care about who’s in first.

In fact, that’s how you should treat anything that you do. You WANT to be first. You WANT to be on-top. You WANT to be scrutinized because the more pressure that is put on you, the more you’ll rise to the occasion and elevate your game.

Additionally, being first affords you the opportunity to lead the pack – just look at Apple and Facebook, they’re leaders in their industry. Anytime they make a move, the rest of the industry tries to keep up. Look at what you do now in your field. Are you a follower or a leader? Most likely, you’re a follower, but you can change that.

Now I know what you’re thinking – someone is already first in my field, I can’t change that – yes you can! It just means you’re going to have to work harder, build more relationships, and do things better than the competition, that is unless you’re ok with not being the leader, the one out front driving others.

Take some time to think about it, do you want to be first or last? I know which one I would choose. How about you?

Time management with Facebook Add Interests lists [video]

Facebook Add Interests Lists
Facebook Add Interests Lists - Facebook Mobile App

One of my favorite (and often most-overlooked) Facebook features are add interests lists. Facebook ‘add interests lists’ are a tool to let you quickly and easily organize your Facebook Newsfeed into individualized lists.

Why organize your Facebook Newsfeed with Add Interests list?

One of the biggest challenges with using Facebook is that after we’ve friended a lot of people and liked a lot of Facebook Pages, eventually our newsfeed becomes too much to mange and we begin to miss updates from some of the Facebook profiles and pages because they’re simply too much content to go through.

With Add Interests Lists, we are able to better separate our Facebook Newsfeed so that we’re able to see relevant updates just by clicking on one of the lists that we’ve created. What I like most about this is that ‘add interests lists’ work when you’re visiting Facebook from your laptop, your tablet and also from the Facebook mobile app.

What can I include in Faebook Add Interests Lists?

The great thing about Add Interests Lists is that you can mix and match Facebook Profiles and Facebook Pages so that you see updates how you want to. For instance, I have a social media resource list which I use for browsing content from my favorite social media channels. I also have one for Final Cut Pro resources as well as one for updates from business partners and one for family among others.

Enough about Facebook Add Interests Lists, how do I create them, how do I access them, how do I order them, how do I subscribe to them? Watch the video below.

Turning I Can’t Into I Can

The glass is half full, the glass is half emptyHow many times have you told yourself, I’ll get to it tomorrow? Tomorrow comes and what happens, nothing. As the days go on, the same thing continues to happen. You keep telling yourself you’ll get it done (whatever the project is), and you continue to procrastinate. Pretty soon, one, two, three months go by and you still haven’t moved forward on anything.

When we stop to think about it (which we have lots of time to do anyways because we aren’t doing anything to begin with), the reason why you are not getting things done is because you’re putting roadblocks in front of you by telling yourself, I can’t.

8 types of images that work on Pinterest

8 image types for maximum repins on PinterestPinterest, a social network with around 11.7 million plus monthly visitors, is the fastest growing social network (until something better comes along). Now I know what you’re thinking – another social network to join, how do you find the time?

Unlike other social networks, one thing that sets Pinterest apart is that it isn’t about games or apps or tweets nor is it about having to approve a friend request in order for someone to look at your updates. Instead, it’s all about images (and videos), so lets get started!

5 Things to Promote with Facebook Promoted Posts

Promoted posts on FacebookFacebook recently added a new feature called promoted posts, aimed at helping you reach more of your fans. While this means you can promote any of your Facebook posts, it is important to remember that every piece of content should not be promoted. Think of it as a tool to use for only your best content.

For business owners, it is very important to know what kinds of posts you should promote, because the more you post and overwhelm your customers, the more likely they are to unlike your page or hide it from their newsfeed. You wouldn’t want that, would you? That means lost revenue and lost opportunities to get more eyes on your content, not to mention it could lead to poor word of mouth marketing to other customers.

So what should you promote?

Ideally, you should be very selective about what you post. You also want to make sure that whatever you are posting about is something that is a result producing activity – meaning something that will get users to take an action. If you’re just sharing news that has already been written about across a number of other websites, running a promoted posts may not be ideal, because you most likely won’t get the “pop” that you were expecting from fans. Instead, focus on posts that will help your business reach its own goals.

Here are five different types of content that you should consider using Facebook promoted post for.

How to promote Facebook posts (video tutorial)

BIG news this week from Facebook. They launched the ability to promote Facebook posts to a much broader audience. What this means is that Facebook Page owners who have more than 400 fan, will see an option at the bottom of their post that says “promote.”

Promote a post on Facebook Pages

So what are promoted posts on Facebook?  Once you post a status update, a link, or photo to your Facebook Timeline and you are not happy with the results you’re getting – such as only reaching just 5% of your Facebook fans, you can pay Facebook a little extra to have your content shown to more fans!

How to use the promote post feature on your Facebook Page (video):

Turn off Safari Reading List in Mac OS X

One of my favorite features of Mac OS X’s Safari web browser is Safari Reading List. For those of you unfamiliar with Safari Reading List, this feature within the Safari web browser, give you the ability to save articles to read whenever you like.

This is a great feature for anyone who users other Apple devices such as an Apple iPhone or iPad, because you can use iCloud to keep articles you have stored for reading within Safari Reading List synced across devices.

For those of you who don’t use this feature, you can easily turn it off in your Safari web browser using these steps.
