How to Twitter [Infographic]

While there are a lot of social networks to sign-up for, probably one of the easiest social networks to join and start using has to be Twitter. While most networks require you to add friends and start following people, Twitter takes a different approach.Instead, all you need to do is sign-up (which takes about a minute) and then you can begin looking at posts from  other Twitter users and can interact with their content by tweeting, retweeting and following those users.

To help you get started with learning Twitter lingo, check out this Infographic on how to Twitter, complete with all of the steps you need to sign-up, select a username, and begin following and tweeting to others on Twitter.

No One Cares What You Had For Lunch

Just the other day, I was cleaning off my bookshelf to make room for some new books when I came across a fun little book that I had tucked away called No One Cares What You Had for Lunch: 100 Ideas for Your Blog. While this book may seem a little dated because everyone is blogging now, it really isn’t because while this book focuses on different ideas that you can use on your blog, it also focuses on the importance of getting topics of conversation out in the open and not just in your head.

Case in point, when consulting with other businesses, I often overhear clients talking about how no one cares about what they have to say. On the contrary, that’s not necessarily the case. In fact, for some reason, we’re afraid to talk about something because we have a fear of ruffling a few feathers. What eventually happens is that we keep our thoughts and ideas bottled up and don’t put them to use.

While talking about controversial topics can get some people upset, don’t let it because blogging can be a great outlet. In fact, here are a few things that this book can teach you about yourself:

  • How to swallow your pride
  • Being defensive – and sticking up for  yourself and your ideas
  • Finding like minds

Changing your Facebook vanity URL username [video]

Back in 2009, there was a major land grab for Facebook vanity URL’s. What this meant was that a lot of people ended up with really bad URL’s – that they couldn’t change.  Fast-forward three years later and Facebook seems to have been listening because now you can change your Facebook vanity URL username. While this is great for those of you who got stuck with a bad vanity URL — think anything with underscores or dashes — this means you can now fix that and continue building your brand via social media.

Before you get all excited though, there are three caveats to changing your Facebook vanity URL

  1. You must have 200 Facebook fans before you are allowed to make this change
  2. Changing your URL means you will also lose any search engine positioning you previously had
  3. Your old URL also won’t redirect, so if you have it on business cards, a website, flyers or in email signatures, you’ll need to change it STAT!
For those of you who are ready to change your Facebook vanity URL, watch this very brief video on how to change your Facebook vanity URL username:

Adding a cover to your Facebook photo albums

Anytime you upload a photo to Facebook, by default, your photo you just uploaded is automatically set as the cover photo for your Facebook photo album. While this is great that they do this automatically, sometimes you just want to choose your own cover photo for your photo album that best represents the group of photos.

Here’s how you can add a cover to your Facebook photo albums on both your Facebook Page as well as your Facebook Profile.

We’re alway’s looking for the best time to post on Facebook in order to achieve maximum reach and engagement. For most Facebook Page owners, this is an area that is often overlook.

Instead of taking the time to figure out the right time to post on Facebook, we post content when we feel like it. As a result, our Facebook Page suffers and so do our fans.

Change your Facebook Group photo cover (video)

For those of you using Facebook Groups, one thing you’ll notice that as you add new members, your Facebook Groups cover photo will begin to show photos of your members – it is essentially creating a collage of your group members.

While this looks great when you have just a few members, as your Facebook Group grows, it becomes increasingly difficult to see the photos. Additionally, a Facebook Group cover photo of your group members might not be very representative of what your group is actually about.

Here’s a quick tutorial on how to change your Facebook Group photo cover along with a video.

Xbox LIVE app for iPhone and iPad

Microsoft’s latest app for Apple iOS users called Xbox LIVE mobile app just got a sweet update for video game players. Now, you can control content on your Xbox using your iPhone and iPod Touch.  If you’ve ever used an iOS device to control your Apple TV or your iTunes library, you’ll love this because now you can “play, pause, fast forward, and rewind” just by swiping across your device!

While this is my favorite new feature, here’s a quick rundown on the new Xbox LIVE mobile app.
