As I was out in Los Angeles the other day, I’ll admit, it was pretty hard not to notice all of the stars’ names on the ground. Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Kobe Bryant and even the great Thomas Edison. For most people, you probably think that reaching their level is unattainable. One thing that we often forget though is that each and every one of those people started somewhere else. Sure, some people were in the right place at the right time, but that shouldn’t deter you. In fact, you may not realize it, but you’re actually already a celebrity yourself.
Already a celebrity, how can that possibly be?
Have you ever mowed a lawn for your neighbor, fixed a computer glitch for your friend, had someone ask you to teach them something or even had someone seek you out for advice? If you answered yes, you’re a celebrity. If you think about it, we’re all celebrities in our own right. For some, being a celebrity means having millions of adoring fans around the globe. For others, you may be a celebrity in your neighborhood, at your church, or even among your friends.
Taking it to the next level
So now that you’ve gotten over the fact that you’re a celebrity, the next thing you need to learn is how to take it to the next level. This step doesn’t mean buying an expensive car or spending lots of money on clothing. What you need to do is look at what you currently do, and start networking with others who are looking for help in your area of expertise. This could mean going to the library and volunteering to speak about a topic you know extremely well, taking classes to make yourself even more knowledgeable (and networking with other classmates), or even starting your own group and recruiting others passionate about it to join your cause.
So how does this make me a celebrity?
Just by networking and putting effort into getting better, more people will start to take notice. With each new connection that you forge, you take a step towards reaching the top. And by top, I don’t mean someone else’s top, I mean YOUR top. What is it that you want to do and how fast do you want to get there? Only you know this. If you want to get there faster, be sure you network with others who can help you along the way – that’s what some of your favorite celebrities have done. It’s about getting good at your craft and then finding the right people to work with to help you reach your goal.
What’s your passion? What are you good at? EVERYBODY is good at something. It is about figuring out what you do best and putting your efforts into it. I hope to see your name on a star one day! Lights, camera, action!
