One of the questions I often get asked about on building a successful Facebook Page or any social media account is what should I post?
Not knowing your business, what you do, what you offer and which channels you’re currently using to engage with customers, I can offer one piece of advice.
Ask your mom, your wife, or your significant other.

Why ask your mom or your wife or significant other?
David Ogilvy famously said, “The consumer is not a moron, she is your wife.”
Asking your mom, wife or significant other is the single piece of advice I can offer to anyone who is looking to be successful with social media. The reason why is simple. Most often, your mom or your significant other are your single biggest cheerleaders, but at the same time, they’re honest.
So before you begin posting anything to your social networks, consult your mom or wife or significant other and ask them these questions:
- Is my content relevant to my Facebook Page or social network that I’m posting it to?
- Is my content offensive in any way?
- Could my content be taken out of context?
- If you saw this on the web, how would you react to it – if at all?
If you get any response back from your mom, your wife or your significant other is anything less than positive, change your content and definitely don’t post it!
When it’s time to make decisions on what to post, don’t make the decisions yourself. Ultimately, leave it up to your customers along with your closest supporters – your mom, your wife or your significant other. And remember, if your mom doesn’t approve it, don’t expect your fans or your customers to either.
